Game Boy Color

The cartridge label distinction is fundamental for GBC collectors: grey label = Game Boy only, black label with coloured stripe = GBC enhanced (runs on both), clear label = GBC only (won't run on original hardware). The GBC CPU ran roughly twice as fast as the DMG and displayed from a 32,768-colour palette — but the screen had no backlight, which means the transparent shell variants (Atomic Purple, Teal, Grape) scratch visibly and show every scuff. The Pokémon Gold/Silver limited edition with the gold and silver cartridges are among the most coveted GBC items. Dragon Warrior Monsters, Shantae and Metal Gear Solid — a fully original game, not a port — are the titles every serious collector needs.
